Thirty-five Biological and Environmental Science students, along with faculty mentors, traveled to Georgia Gwinnett College last week to present their research at the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Sciences. Approximately 100 oral and 100 poster presentations were delivered by students and faculty from colleges and universities across the state.
Biological and Environmental Science students were recognized for excellence in research in several sections. Kali Holierhoek (faculty mentor Dr. Kris White) won Best Graduate Oral Presentation in the Biological Sciences section. In the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences section, Brannon Polk (Dr. Allison VandeVoort) won Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation, Victoria Alden (Dr. Christine Mutiti) won Best Graduate Oral Presentation and Michelle Crumley (Dr. Sam Mutiti) won Best Undergraduate Poster Presentation.
In the Biomedical Sciences section, Kindle Reeves (Dr. Kasey Karen) won Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation, Ansley Whitfield (Dr. Kasey Karen) won Best Graduate Student Presentation and Brian Wirth and Nathan Choi (Dr. Arnab Sengupta) won Best Undergraduate Poster Presentation. Wiley Bundy, Laura Harvey, Kali Holierhoek, Megan Martin, Elise Mirabella, Muzila Nchimunya and Brannon Polk received Travel Awards from the Academy. Additionally, 14 of the undergraduate students received financial support from MURACE.
