The Albanian Naval Force marks the 100th anniversary of its establishment. The first effort to organize a national navy dates back to December 25, 1925, when the Albanian Parliament approved the budget for the purchase of two military vessels from Italy, Shqipnia and Skënderbeg.
After the 1990s, the Naval Force, like the entire Albanian Armed Forces, underwent a comprehensive process of reform and modernization, aligning with NATO standards in order to fulfill its constitutional mission.
Today, the Naval Force continues to modernize its fleet with new combat vessels, multi-purpose platforms, and capabilities for mine countermeasures and underwater surveillance.
For more than six years, it has been a valued contributor to NATO's mission in the Aegean Sea with a patrol vessel.
Safeguarding the sovereignty of the maritime space of the Republic of Albania, in coordination with other structures of the Albanian Armed Forces and NATO, as well as enforcing national and international maritime law, remains the core mission of the Naval Force, carried out with professionalism and pride throughout these 100 years.
