Gov. Mike Braun Highlights Skilled Trades, Apprenticeships, and Workforce Development in Visit to Central Midwest Carpenters
INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mike Braun today visited Central Midwest Carpenters during Apprenticeship Week to highlight the importance of skilled trades training, apprenticeships, and career-connected education in building Indiana's workforce and supporting the state's future growth.
" Indiana needs more skilled tradespeople, and workforce development is a top priority for this administration. Apprenticeships give Hoosiers the opportunity to earn while they learn, build real skills, and step into strong careers. We're making sure more young people know they can build a great future in the trades." - Governor Mike Braun
Across 33 locals in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, the Central Midwest Carpenters Union represents more than 37,000 professional tradespeople. The union's work to train apprentices and support skilled trades careers is helping strengthen Indiana's workforce pipeline and prepare more Hoosiers for high-demand, high-wage jobs.
Governor Braun has made workforce development a key focus of his administration. Indiana recently launched Power Up Indiana, a new program to incentivize employers to reskill, upskill, and promote workers into higher-wage jobs. Indiana's new diploma system also places a greater emphasis on work-based learning, on-the-job training, and apprenticeships, helping connect young people with real career opportunities.
Governor Braun thanked Central Midwest Carpenters for its leadership in training the next generation of craftspeople who will build and maintain communities across Indiana, and for helping ensure the state has the workforce needed to support future development and more affordable housing.
Governor Braun was joined today by Rep. Michelle Davis, Sen. Cyndi Carrasco, and Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers.
