Johnson County buildings and offices closed for Monday, Jan. 6

Due to the ongoing winter storm and road conditions, all Johnson County Government buildings and offices will be closed on Monday, January 6. Employees who perform non-essential work have been instructed to work remotely if their job allows.

Residents needing to conduct business with the county on Monday can utilize online services at www.jocogov.org or can call 913-715-5000.

Closures, cancellations and delays as of 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5.

• Johnson County Libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 6.
• Johnson County Park and Recreation District: In addition to buildings and offices, all JCPRD parks and trails are also closed. For the latest list of cancellations/closures, visit https://jcprd.com/696/Rainouts-Temporary-Closures
• Johnson County District Courts: All in-person jury trials are canceled. All scheduled hearings will be conducted via Zoom.
• Catch-a-Ride and Home Delivered Meals services are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6. The Nutrition Centers will also be closed.
• Johnson County Housing Services will be closed for in-person customer service on Monday, Jan. 6. Customers may email [email protected] or call 913-715-6600 or use the staff contact list.
• Johnson County Mental Health Center: Transportation services are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6.
• Johnson County Transit is planning for the following weather-dependent service adjustments (Riders should prepare for possible additional delays or cancellations and are strongly encouraged to sign up for updates via RideKC Notify):
  • RideKC Freedom and Swift Services: A delayed start is planned for Monday, Jan. 6, at 9 a.m., subject to road conditions. Riders are encouraged to cancel any non-essential trips as soon as possible.
  • Micro Transit:  Monday, Jan. 6: A delayed start at 9 a.m. is planned, but service will only begin if road conditions allow. 
  • Fixed-Route Services:  The K10 route will be canceled tomorrow (both KU and JCCC are closed tomorrow). All other routes will start at 9 a.m. Service will be monitored and any modifications will be posted through the Transit App and RideKC Notify. 

Warming bus at Mission Transit Center 

A warming bus is scheduled to be stationed at the Mission Transit Center on Monday, Jan. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., dependent on staffing, vehicle availability and road conditions. More information on warming centers is available at jocogov.org/snow

Snow removal in the unincorporated areas

Johnson County Public Works plows roads in unincorporated areas of the county. They will work 12-hour shifts, plowing and treating unincorporated Johnson County roads as necessary. Crews have been actively addressing road conditions since the onset of this storm, prioritizing public safety and road accessibility.

Planned Operations for tomorrow:

• Gravel Roads: Starting tomorrow morning, our six motor graders will be deployed to begin clearing gravel roads.
  • First Pass: A 14-foot-wide path will be plowed to establish basic access.
  • Second Pass: After all gravel roads have received an initial pass, crews will return to widen the cleared path to the full road width.
• Paved Roads: Cleanup and maintenance of paved roads will continue concurrently.

We encourage residents to avoid driving during the storm. It will take some time to clear the roadways, and the reduced traffic allows Public Works to move more quickly, helping everyone stay safe.
