Our Carmeuse Longview Operation recently welcomed students and staff from the Cahaba River Coalition's Environmental Leadership Program (ELP), continuing a growing partnership focused on environmental stewardship, sustainability education, and community engagement.
This year's visit marks the fourth consecutive year that Longview hosted the program, providing students with a firsthand look at how environmental responsibility and industrial operations can work together to support long-term sustainability. The Environmental Leadership Program brings together young adults who are passionate about conservation and interested in exploring environmental and science-related careers.
During their visit, participants learned about Carmeuse's commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability initiatives, and responsible operational practices. The Longview team shared how the operation identified and addressed a legacy environmental issue, implemented corrective actions, and continued to maintain high environmental standards today. This experience offers students a real-world example of how organizations can take responsibility, find solutions, and remain committed to protecting natural resources.
The partnership between our Carmeuse Longview Operation and the Cahaba River Coalition extends beyond the Environmental Leadership Program. Over the years, Longview has collaborated with Cahaba Riverkeepers on conservation and community projects throughout the watershed, including environmental restoration efforts and volunteer initiatives. These ongoing collaborations have helped build a strong relationship centered on protecting and enhancing the region's natural resources.
The Cahaba River Coalition values opportunities for students to engage directly with organizations that demonstrate a commitment to continuous environmental improvement. Through visits like this one, participants gain insight into sustainability practices, environmental careers, and the importance of collaboration between industry, conservation organizations, and local communities.
Carmeuse is proud to continue supporting the Environmental Leadership Program and welcoming these future environmental leaders to Longview. Each year, we meet inspiring young people who are passionate about sustainability and eager to make a positive impact on their communities and the environment.
By opening its doors to programs like ELP, Longview continues to invest in environmental education, community partnerships, and the next generation of sustainability leaders.
