On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:
"As Donald Trump prepares to take the Oath of Office on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am reminded of something Dr. King once said: 'Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.' While today may seem dark, as Democrats, it is our duty to lead with light. We must combat hate with love for our neighbors and thoughtful action, and continue fighting for the rights, freedoms, and future of the American people.
"Donald Trump and extreme MAGA Republicans are determined to roll back the Biden-Harris administration's progress and implement their extreme Project 2025 agenda. We will fight back at every turn. Our colleagues in the Senate will hold Donald Trump's nominees accountable as Democrats in the House and state legislatures continue advancing legislation that lowers costs, makes our communities safer, and secures reproductive freedoms.
"Dr. King spoke of a country built on hope, faith, and equality for all, and we have more work to do to realize his dream. The Democratic Party remains strong, and our determination to protect and defend the American people will power us through the next four years."
