Globally Recognized Scholar Named Academic Transformation Director

Dr. Matthew Crosston to Lead BSU's Innovative Learning Initiatives

(BOWIE, Md.) - A globally recognized scholar, analyst and educator was appointed as the new director for academic transformation at Bowie State University to lead the university's online learning program and other innovation initiatives.

As BSU's first director for academic transformation, Dr. Matthew Crosston will lead the design of innovative models for teaching and learning, technology integration into teaching practices, faculty development in new instructional models and partnership expansion to support enhanced research and teaching.

He brings extensive experience in launching new degree programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, as well as facilitating faculty development initiatives. His professorial appointments include positions at Clemson University, the Virginia Military Institute, Bellevue University and the American Military University.

Dr. Crosston's top-tier research, covering the full spectrum of global security, has impacted real-world decision-making worldwide. His publications include more than 150 articles and analytical editorials that have been translated into Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, Hebrew, Spanish, Turkish, Farsi, Greek and Uzbek.

He comes to Bowie State from the seminal Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he was a senior research fellow. He has held global fellowships at the Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens, Greece and the China Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research in Nanjing, China. He was the first American invited to conduct political analysis for the Russian International Affairs Council in Moscow, Russia.

In addition to his scholarly and teaching portfolio, he has been an executive vice chairman of an international think tank and the institutional chief point of contact for a multi-university consortium charged with managing a multi-million dollar U.S. governmental grant.

He holds a doctoral degree from Brown University, a master's degree from the University of London and a bachelor's degree from Colgate University. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto.
