Live Cattle futures traded lower as production slows. 8/19/26

Virginia McGathey reviews the livestock market, highlighting the recent downward trend in Live Cattle futures as the market anticipates slower beef production and ignores higher boxed beef prices. Feeder Cattle futures also trended lower, nearing new contract lows, as supplies decline and packers fulfill their immediate inventory needs. In contrast, Lean Hogs futures bounced back on short covering following a recent triple-digit loss, with the market anticipating improved demand amid surging food prices. McGathey also provides the latest CVOL Index levels for each livestock product.
