U.S. Senator Katie Britt Directly Secures Over $2.3 Million for North Alabama, Continues Leadership on Senate Appropriations Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, recently directly secured over $2.3 million for North Alabama through the passage of two Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 appropriations bills: the FY26 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Act, and the FY26 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies (EWD) Appropriations Act.

"There are several critical North Alabama priorities I was proud to champion and secure in the recent package of funding bills passed by Congress," said Senator Britt. "My priority on the Appropriations Committee has always been to return hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama. Whether I'm working to secure funding for key emergency communications infrastructure, supporting our hardworking law enforcement, or elevating Alabama's leadership in space exploration, I am proud to fulfill my duty to the people of Alabama."

A detailed breakdown of the Alabama priorities secured by Senator Britt can be found below:

  • $1.2 million for the Lawrence County Commission for emergency communications infrastructure.
  • $250,000 for Alabama A&M University for cameras and gun-shot detection technology.
  • $199,762 for the Somerville Police Department for body cameras and a law enforcement vehicle.
  • $325,000 for City of Decatur for law enforcement vehicles.
  • $354,000 for the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office for an armored law enforcement vehicle.

Senator Britt fought for important funding provided in the bill specifically for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center including more than $1.3 billion for the Space Launch System (SLS), over $2 billion to fund the development of two independent Human Landing System (HLS) vehicles, and no less than $110 million for nuclear thermal propulsion systems.

At the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Senator Britt was proud to advocate for the inclusion of $11 million for the Vortex Southeast Hazardous Weather Research Program.

Senator Britt also supported over $250 million to advance economic development and infrastructure improvements across the state, including for the Appalachian Regional Commission.
