Ohio House Passes Bill to Designate PFC Thomas Pizzino Memorial Highway

State Representative Ty Moore (R-Caldwell) today announced that the Ohio House passed House Bill 385 - legislation to formally honor the life, service, and legacy of PFC Thomas "Tommy" Pizzino.

At 20 years old, Tommy Pizzino enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1965. In November of that year, he was deployed to South Vietnam. PFC Pizzino was killed in action by communist forces in the battle of Ia Drang on November 17, 1965. As a result of his bravery in combat, he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. This memorial highway designation serves as a lasting tribute to PFC Pizzino, ensuring his name and sacrifice are permanently recognized within the community he called home.

House Bill 385 will designate a portion of U.S. Route 22 in Harrison County as the PFC Thomas "Tommy" Pizzino Memorial Highway. The designation applies to both the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 22 between the eastern border of Harrison County and the intersection with State Route 151.

"Tommy's story weighs heavily on my heart since I currently have a 20-year-old son," said Rep. Moore. "I'm honored to have supported a bill that will help Tommy's legacy continue forever!"

House Bill 385 reflects Ohio's continued commitment to remembering and honoring those who have served their country with distinction. This bill now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
