Marine Advisory - South Gulf Cove Lock Opening May 15-19

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla (May 7, 2026) - To help raise water levels in the canal system, the South Gulf Cove lock will be opened from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting Friday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 19 to allow water flow. These times may vary depending on the tides.

During the lock opening, strong currents will be present. Vessel traffic will be allowed to pass through the lock on the hour of every hour during the opening timeframe. Boaters are urged to use extreme caution when navigating through the area and passage is at your own risk. Please exercise care and maintain control of your vessel at all times.

Lock tenders will be monitoring VHF Radio Channel 72 for communications. Please note that lock tenders are not responsible for providing assistance or guidance on vessel operation.
