NEW YORK - New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced a limited drop of official Wu-Tang Clan District street signs honoring the legendary hip-hop group from Park Hill on Staten Island. The Wu-Tang Clan District is located at the corner of Targee Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, near the Park Hill Apartments. Though cash may rule everything around the Wu-Tang world, orders must be placed online for $75 each and are limited to one per customer. There are 50 authentic green signs and 50 custom black and yellow signs available to purchase.

The Wu-Tang Clan's debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. The group's name is based on the 1983 martial arts film Shaolin and Wu Tang, and its style was derived from kung-fu movies, comic books, sword fighting, and of course, the streets of New York. The Wu-Tang Clan, with many of its nine members enjoying successful solo careers simultaneously, went on to release six more albums and still remains active.

These authentic New York City street signs are hand-made at the NYC DOT Sign Shop, which produces over 70,000 street signs each year. All signs will be sold via the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services' CityStore, the Official Store of the City of New York, and proceeds will benefit the city's general fund.

"The Wu-Tang Clan's rhyme schemes and lyrical styles were influential in hip-hop history and gave voice to their New York City roots," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "The Wu-Tang Clan is a legendary part of Staten Island's North Shore and now fans can own an authentic piece of our city to honor their legacy."

Monthly sign drops from NYC DOT feature signs for iconic New York City streets, commemorations of famous New Yorkers, celebrations of special occasions, and other custom releases. NYC DOT began its monthly drops this past June, with the release of Christopher Street/Stonewall Place street signs to commemorate Pride Month.

Other recent sign drops include:

• Beastie Boys Square to honor the 35th anniversary of the group's Paul's Boutique album.
• Cornelia Street to honor the street's prominence among pop music fans.
• Christopher "Notorious B.I.G." Wallace Way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the hip-hop artist's debut album Ready to Die.
• Stan Lee Way to honor the comic book legend as comic fans from around the world descended upon New York City.
• Rivera Avenue to commemorate Yankees great Mariano Rivera.

The New York City DOT Sign Shop is in Maspeth, Queens and manufactures over 70,000 signs each year. A team of 32 Sign Shop employees hand-make street signs, highway signs, directional signs, parking signs, and more. The monthly sign drops are the latest iteration of sales that have historically been available from the Sign Shop.
