WB I-80 Bayshore Freeway Weekend Closure Between 5th St. & 15th St.

San Francisco County ― Caltrans has planned a full weekend closure of the westbound I-80 Bayshore Freeway from 5th St. to 15th St. in San Francisco, scheduled for October 23-26. The closure begins Friday, October 23, 11 p.m. Monday, October 26, 6 a.m.
This work is necessary for crews to place polyester concrete on the Bayshore freeway deck and completes a broader I-80 viaduct polyester concrete placement project which began on the eastbound I-80 earlier this year.
During the weekend closure motorists must use the Fremont St. exit. Fifth street is another option but will be last exit before the closure. A detour map details options to get back onto the WB I-80 or to the I-280 freeway.
Why This Work Is Necessary
The Central and Bayshore freeway viaducts are 71 years old and carry thousands of vehicles daily near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge corridor. With constant exposure to heavy traffic loads, weather, and seismic demands, the structures require timely rehabilitation to prevent further deterioration. Performing this work now allows Caltrans to address critical maintenance needs, preserve the existing infrastructure, and ensure continued safety for motorists, commuters, pedestrians, and cyclists traveling through and beneath the structures.
