All lanes of U.S. Route 63 in Columbia now open…

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - U.S. Route 63 in Columbia is once again open to two lanes in each direction. Crews have completed multiple bridge projects in the area and were able to reopen all lanes the morning of Dec. 18.

On Oct. 14, 2024, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation narrowed U.S. Route 63 to one lane in each direction in a head-to-head configuration. This traffic shift allowed crews to construct two new bridges on U.S. Route 63 just north of Broadway, rehabilitate the two bridges on U.S. Route 63 over I-70, and tie in the still-under-construction direct-connect ramp from northbound U.S. Route 63 to I-70.

While all lanes of U.S. Route 63 are now open, intermittent single-lane closures are possible until crews complete reconstructing the I-70/U.S. Route 63 interchange.

This is part of the work to reconstruct the I-70/U.S. Route 63 interchange, which is one portion of the first project within MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Missouri's FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
