President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva.

The Head of State expressed gratitude for the attention to Ukraine and for the programs that help strengthen Ukraine's economy and resilience, especially now, when Russian strikes and severe winter weather are creating serious challenges.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed about Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy sector and all critical infrastructure, as well as on residential buildings. Just today, the Russians struck Kharkiv, leaving more than 400,000 people without electricity and heating.

"You see that the attacks happen not only at night, but also in the morning and during the day. They are using this period, which is very cold, especially over these two weeks, to attack us as much as possible. In any case, we are grateful for the opportunity to maintain macro-financial stability thanks to our relations with the IMF. We count on the continuation of our relations. We count on a new program," the President said.

The IMF Managing Director noted that before the meeting she personally saw one of the energy facilities damaged by Russian strikes. She expressed solidarity with Ukraine.

"We admire the strength of the Ukrainian people. And it is an honor to be an institution that can offer you a helping hand," Kristalina Georgieva emphasized.

The IMF Managing Director also noted the work that Ukraine is carrying out within its commitments. For her part, she assured that she would continue efforts to implement the new financing program on which the IMF and the Government of Ukraine have been working since last fall. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Kristalina Georgieva discussed the preparation of this program.

The new program will provide expanded financing for 2026-2029 to maintain macro-financial stability, fund critically important defense and social needs, and enable Ukraine's reconstruction after the war ends.
