Rep. Kiggans Votes to Reopen Government

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) voted to pass the government funding package that officially ends the 43-day shutdown, restores pay for federal employees and servicemembers, and delivers key wins for Hampton Roads, America's veterans, and working families.

The spending package funds the federal government through January 30, 2026, while providing full-year appropriations for the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture-FDA, and Legislative Branch bills. The package now heads to President Trump's desk for his signature.

"I was proud to vote for this spending package. This legislation ends the shutdown, ensures our troops and federal workers are paid, and invests in the people and projects that keep our nation strong," said Congresswoman Kiggans. "It's not a long-term fix, but it's a necessary step to restore stability and deliver real results for Hampton Roads and American families."

"This partisan shutdown has been detrimental to not only our constituents in Virginia's Second District, but to Americans across the nation," Congresswoman Kiggans continued. "This shutdown furloughed 37,000 staffers at The Veterans Administration, jeopardized 42 million Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients' benefits, and affected 3,500 flights a day. On top of that, this shutdown delayed the placement of permanent headstones for deceased veterans and halted assistance programs. Despite this, House Democrats still voted to keep the government shut down-this is simply outrageous," Rep. Kiggans stated. "This agreement ends weeks of uncertainty for our military, our veterans, and our federal workforce," Kiggans added. "As we continue the fight for full-year appropriations, I'll keep working to ensure Virginia's Second District has the resources it needs to stay strong, secure, and supported. I look forward to continuing the appropriation process and beginning negotiations with my colleagues on my Premium Tax Credit Extension Act," she concluded.
