Henderson Mayor and City Council Adopt Parks and Recreation Make It Possible Master Plan

Master Plan Will Guide Parks and Recreation for the Next Decade

HENDERSON, Nev.(March 18, 2026) -Henderson Mayor and City Council on Tuesday adopted the Parks and Recreation Make It Possible Master Plan,a community driven roadmap that will guide the City's parks, trails, recreation facilities and programs over the next 10 years.

The plan outlines long-term priorities for Henderson's parks and recreation system based on community feedback, staff input and industry's best practices. It evaluates existing facilities and services, reviews demographic trends and identifies opportunities to expand and improve recreation programs and amenities.

Community priorities identified through the process were organized into five goals with more than 100 action items for the next decade. The goals focus on sustainability, financial opportunities, organizational efficiencies, program and service delivery and affordability and access to facilities and amenities.

"From neighborhood parks and recreation centers to sports, trails and programs for all ages, parks and recreation help make it possible for residents to stay active, connect with their community and experience the high quality of life that makes Henderson such a special place to live," said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.

Henderson's parks and recreation system supports community health, quality of life and the local economy by:

  • Managing 77 parks, eight recreation centers, 105 athletic fields and more than 300 miles of trails
  • Serving more than 470,000 meals annually to Henderson seniors and children through community programs
  • Hosting 4,944 sports tournaments over the past two years, generating an estimated $108 million in economic impact
  • Supporting higher property values, with studies showing homes near parks can increase in value by 8 to 10 percent
  • Adding more than 60 parks through strategic partnerships at no cost to taxpayers, creating hundreds of millions of dollars in park assets for the Henderson community

Development of the Parks and Recreation Make It Possible Master Plan included stakeholder interviews, focus groups, community meetings, presentations to boards and commissions and a statistically valid community survey.
