EUMAM MOZ ensures continuity of medical support with new Physician

Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) has ensured the continuity of its medical capability with the arrival of Lieutenant Junior Grade Diogo Trindade, from the Portuguese Navy, who assumes duties as part of the Mission's medical component following the handover process.

At 26 years old and originally from Viseu, Lieutenant Junior Grade Trindade joins EUMAM MOZ with solid academic and military experience, bringing different points of view from both national and international operational contexts. In Mozambique, he will contribute to the provision of medical support to deployed personnel, while supporting cooperation and knowledge-sharing with the Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM).

Lieutenant Trindade began his military career in 2017, undertaking his academic training at the Portuguese Naval Academy and at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. His professional path includes experience in diverse settings, notably a two-month clinical exchange in Newcastle, United Kingdom, within a civilian hospital of the National Health Service (NHS), where he strengthened his clinical skills in an international environment.

'I approach this new role with a strong sense of responsibility and challenge,' says Lieutenant Trindade. 'Operating in a multinational environment will require readiness, adaptability and leadership, both as a medical professional and as part of a healthcare team within a European Union mission.'

In addition to his hospital background, Lieutenant Junior Grade Trindade has served as a medical support officer to naval units and special operations teams of the Portuguese Navy, participating in counter-narcotics operations, Search and Rescue missions and operational training exercises, applying medical and military skills in demanding operational environments.

This is Lieutenant Junior Grade Trindade's first experience in Mozambique, which he describes as an opportunity for both personal and professional enrichment, through contact with a new country, its people and a multinational mission environment.

The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique is a non-executive mission, with a mandate in force until June 2026. Currently commanded by Commodore César Pires Correia of the Portuguese Navy, EUMAM MOZ is composed of 83 military personnel from 12 different nationalities.
