Bearcat Buddies program offering exclusive opportunities, game-day experiences to young fans

With the start of a new fall season of Bearcat athletics at Northwest Missouri State University just weeks away, the University's beloved mascot is inviting young fans to join him for exclusive events and game-day experiences.

Northwest is relaunching its Bearcat Buddies program, which is free to join, for children who are age 12 and younger. Members will receive updates directly from mascot Bobby Bearcat about promotions, ticket opportunities and Bearcat Buddies events throughout the year.

"We're excited to connect our Bearcat Buddies with Bobby Bearcat while creating fun, memorable experiences and special events they'll love," University Event Coordinator Kaley Coulter, who is developing and overseeing the program, said. "Our goal is to foster a strong sense of community, build connections with Bearcat Athletics and campus, and create lasting memories for our youngest Bearcats and their families.

All fans can look for Bobby Bearcat at Northwest athletic activities throughout the year. Bearcat soccer opens its regular season home schedule with a match at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, against Maryville University at Bearcat Pitch, and kickoff for the first home football game is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, against Washburn University at Bearcat Stadium. Bobby will appear at the Bearcat volleyball match at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, against the Newman University in Bearcat Arena.

Bobby Bearcat is the official spirit leader and goodwill ambassador for the University. Northwest adopted its nickname in 1916 after being dubbed "Bearcats" by an opposing basketball coach. In the 1960s, Bobby Bearcat began appearing regularly at Northwest's athletic games and has remained a constant in the grandstands and on the sidelines.
