Cedar Street Bridge rehab resumes April 1

PEORIA - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that rehabilitation of the Cedar Street Bridge (Illinois 8/116) over the Illinois River resumes April 1.

To accommodate the work, traffic will be restricted on one lane in each direction to set up traffic control. On April 2, the traffic pattern will switch to two-way traffic in the bridge's eastbound lanes through late May while repairs to the structural steel and driving surface are made. The bridge will then close completely to replace a finger joint, which could take up to two months.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
