After three years of candidacy preparation, Radford University's 15-month, fully online Master of Healthcare Administration (M.H.A.) program earned accreditation for a four-year term from the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), which advances the quality of education in healthcare management. This newest distinction reinforces Radford's well-established reputation as a leader in regional healthcare education.
"CAHME-accredited programs have successfully navigated a complex and careful accreditation process managed by experts in the study and practice of healthcare management," said Al Faber, interim president and CEO of CAHME. To achieve this status, the university had to meet rigorous standards set by the commission, which included faculty completing a year-long self-study and hosting an in-person site visit from the CAHME accreditation team in fall 2025.
"This accreditation reflects the dedication, rigor and shared commitment of the faculty and leadership within Radford University's Master of Healthcare Administration program to delivering a high-quality, mission-driven curriculum," said Carey Peerman, M.H.A. program director.
The program, housed in the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Leadership of Waldron College of Health and Human Services, allows students to advance their careers with the skills to manage and lead in a complex, fast-changing industry.
"Through a focus on evidence-based decision-making, interdisciplinary collaboration and population health improvement, our graduates are prepared to advance organizational excellence, strengthen clinical outcomes and make a meaningful impact across the healthcare continuum," Peerman said.
A benefit of full accreditation from CAHME is that the program is eligible for membership in the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Radford M.H.A. students gain access to national networking opportunities, eligibility for AUPHA scholarships and the chance to join competitive case study competitions that strengthen their professional portfolios.
Provost Bethany Usher emphasized that the accreditation "strengthens Radford University's growing reputation as the premier destination for healthcare education and talent in Southwest and Southside Virginia." She is thrilled to see how alumni transform into healthcare leaders dedicated to improving the well-being of communities across the commonwealth.
