Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns Celebrate Grand National Drive Improvements

Project Marks Major Milestone in International Drive Revitalization Plan

WHAT:
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of Phase I of the Grand National Drive capacity improvements, a key milestone in the City's broader effort to revitalize the North International Drive corridor.

This project represents a major investment in mobility, pedestrian safety and infrastructure modernization in one of Orlando's busiest tourism and business districts. Enhancements stretch from Oak Ridge Road to Vanguard Street and include:

  • 10-12-foot multi-use sidewalks to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety
  • Redesigned streetscapes and upgraded landscaping
  • Improved drainage infrastructure
  • Traffic flow enhancements supporting reduced congestion and better connectivity

These improvements also support the City's Vision Zero initiative, aimed at eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries, and offer a key alternative route to relieve pressure on Kirkman Road due to the I-4 Ultimate project.

The Grand National Drive improvements are part of the City of Orlando's long-term strategy to support economic growth, improve infrastructure and create a more connected, accessible International Drive district.
