AUSTIN ⎯ Governor Greg Abbott today announced two Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant awards totaling $273,910 to Tarrant County College District by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The SDF grants will help train 173 workers in high demand occupations in blueprint reading, project management, flexographic printing, and more.
"For Texas to remain prosperous, we must make critical investments to our world-class workforce," said Governor Abbott. "These workforce grants will help ensure Texans receive a valuable education and prepare them for in-demand career opportunities. I thank the Texas Workforce Commission for their partnership with Tarrant County College to provide Texans the skills they need to be part of the strongest economy in the nation."
"These Skills Development Fund grants demonstrate how local partners across education and industry can work together to strengthen the North Texas economy," said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza. "By providing tailored training for more than 170 working Texans, Tarrant County College is helping these local businesses enhance their production capabilities and contribute to a stronger Texas."
Earlier today, TWC Chairman Joe Esparza presented the award to representatives from Tarrant County College District, AO Smith Corporation, DOT IT Restaurant Fulfillment, and other local partners during a ceremony held at Tarrant County College Opportunity Center in Fort Worth.
The two SDF grants include:
SDF is the state's workforce training grant program to help businesses upskill their new or incumbent workforce. In partnership with the public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC collaborates to provide customized, innovative training to Texas businesses of all sizes.
The SDF grant program has provided training opportunities in partnership with more than 5,000 employers to upgrade or support the creation of over 446,000 jobs throughout Texas since the program's inception in 1996.
