With thousands expected to attend the Ventura County Fair from July 30 through August 10, the Ventura Police Department advises the public to expect traffic congestion near the Ventura County Fairgrounds and throughout the surrounding area. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead, utilize public transportation, or take advantage of off-site parking options to minimize delays and support pedestrian safety.
To support this effort, daily road closures will be in effect. Southbound Figueroa Street, from Thompson Boulevard to Harbor Boulevard, will be closed for the duration of the Fair. California Street, from Thompson to Harbor, will be closed to southbound traffic each day from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with an earlier closure of 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5.
"Large-scale events like the Ventura County Fair have a significant impact on our roadways and neighborhoods," said Traffic Unit Supervisor Sergeant Mark Knackstedt. "Our priority is to maintain public safety by managing traffic flow, reducing the risk of collisions, and ensuring the safety of pedestrians moving through heavily traveled areas."
To ease the strain on Downtown streets, Fairgoers are strongly encouraging to use the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner or utilize the shuttle system that will operate throughout the event, running every 15 to 20 minutes until midnight each day. The shuttle is ADA-compliant and serves several key locations, offering convenient and accessible transportation. Learn more about transportation options at www.VenturaCountyFair.org.
In addition to traffic control, the Ventura Police Department will maintain a strong public safety presence inside the Fairgrounds. This includes increased foot patrols, deployment of the Mounted Patrol Unit, and an on-site Command Post to ensure coordinated communication and a rapid response to any public safety needs.
Drivers are reminded to obey all traffic laws, follow posted signage, and remain alert in areas with increased pedestrian activity. Those arriving via the 101 Freeway are advised to exit at South Seaward Avenue for the most direct route to the event.
The Ventura County Fair is one of the region's most well-attended events, and the Ventura Police Department thanks residents and visitors for their cooperation in making safety a top priority.
