WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of Senate Republican leadership and a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, joined Fox News' "America's Newsroom" with Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer to discuss government funding and immigration reform.

HIGHLIGHTS:

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF DEMOCRATS' DEMANDS CHANGING DHS FUNDING ALLOCATED THROUGH THE ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL: "You know, I don't think it will change what we did in the One Big Beautiful Bill, and that was to really fund ICE and give them a lot more fortifications to do their job. What we're looking at now is a homeland security bill that not only has ICE and Border Patrol in it, it also has Coast Guard, Secret Service, FEMA, importantly, we see these storms coming forward. So, it's really important that while this Homeland Security may be in a continuing resolution for two weeks while it's negotiated, that we get these folks back on stream and that we fully fund their efforts.

ON IMPORTANCE OF FUNDING HOMELAND SECURITY SERVICES: "They're essential to the safety of this country. And you know, it is frustrating for everybody that we're at this point. I think that the best path would have been to pass all six bills, and we could have done that probably last night or at least today, to avoid a temporary shutdown, but I feel like we'll have success next week with the five as they're negotiating home.

ON THE NEED FOR BROADER IMMIGRATION REFORM: "Well, you know, as easy as that sounds, you know, well, that over the last 20 years or so, we've gotten to the brink of comprehensive immigration reform and never gotten there. And so, I think that's a tough hill to climb. I think what we have to do is respect ICE agents, respect the law that they're enforcing, and de-escalate the situations, which I think is what Tom Homan said. He did say in additional comments, that nothing's perfect. It hasn't been perfect. And so, I think that shows that they're going to make some adjustments and work with local and state officials, with the president, to try to make sure that the criminals, the ones that are the most violent, that's what we want off the street. That's what the President said he would do, he would go after, and I think the American people would support him in that.
