Penn State Harrisburg will host its inaugural "I Have a Dream" High School Basketball Classic at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20, in the Capital Union Building Gym.

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The following is a collection of events happening around Penn State Harrisburg over the next two weeks.

Events

Red Cross Blood Drive - 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Jan. 14, Library, 101 Morrison Gallery. Make an appointment online (search zip code 17057). Participants must bring ID.

"I Have a Dream" High School Basketball Classic - 3 p.m., Jan. 20, Capital Union Building, Gym. Penn State Harrisburg will host its inaugural MLK Day basketball classic. This tournament will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through community, competition and inspiration. The event will feature four local high school teams: 3 p.m., girls game tip off, Central Dauphin East High School vs. Northeastern High School; and 5 p.m. boys game tip off, Gettysburg High School vs. Middletown High School. Admission is free. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to local food banks.

Lunar New Year Celebration - 6-9 p.m., Jan. 24, Capital Union Building, Events Room 210. Each Lunar New Year (also called the Chinese New Year holiday) is associated with one of the 12 zodiac animals, each paired with one of the five traditional elements in a 60-year cycle. The year 2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake. Food, performances, and more.

Performances

"Call of the Crusades" - 2-3:30 p.m., Jan. 25, Student Enrichment Center, Mukund Kulkarni Theatre. This original play, written by award-winning playwright Sharia Benn with contributions from the cast of students, brings to life the story of nine Penn State Harrisburg students who stumble upon a hidden MLK Memorial. Their journey uncovers the history of Martin Luther King Jr.'s twelve crusades and connects the civil rights past to today's challenges, fostering self-discovery and unity among the students.
