Duckworth, Durbin Applaud Senate Passage of Resolution Celebrating 150 Years of the Chicago Cubs Baseball Team

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today applauded Senate passage of their resolution commending the Chicago Cubs baseball team as it celebrates its 150th anniversary on August 29, 2026. The resolution notes that since 1876, more than 182,000,000 fans have attended games of the Chicago Cubs, and millions more have listened to games on the radio and watched games on television across the United States and the world. U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05) introduced a companion resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"From the numbing heartbreak of a record-long championship drought to the indescribable joy we all felt when the curse was broken on a rainy night in Cleveland, fans have cheered and cried for the Chicago Cubs for more than 150 seasons," said Duckworth. "This historic team is an institution not just in our state, but across the country. I'm proud to see our resolution pass the Senate and honor our Cubbies as they celebrate this incredible landmark and continue to build on their rich legacy."

"For 150 years, the Chicago Cubs have been the heart of our great city. For 150 years, they have brought millions of fans together from across the world to all chant 'Go, Cubs, Go!' They delivered three World Series and countless wins. I'm honored this resolution passed the Senate to celebrate our beloved Cubbies, and their dedicated, passionate fans," said Durbin.

The resolution also highlights the eight division titles, 17 National League pennants, and three World Series championships, including the series of seven games in 2016 during which the Cubs completed a historic comeback from down three games to one to defeat the Cleveland Indians.
