Ascension Saint Alexius is excited to announce that it has earned a "high-performing" distinction from U.S. News & World Report for its treatment of knee replacement and heart failure.
U.S. News regularly ranks hospitals based on their specialties; these scores are based largely on objective data sources, such as Medicare claims and other publicly available data. High performing hospitals, like Saint Alexius, are considered "significantly better" than the national average in the medical specialty they earn the designation in. A hospital's score is based on data such as patient survival rates, infection rates, recovery at home, length of hospital stay, number of patients treated and more. Around 4,500 hospitals were evaluated this year.
Saint Alexius also houses Ascension Illinois' Center for Advanced Joint Replacement. This center is one of only three orthopedic specialty centers in the Chicagoland area, separating itself as an orthopedic leader for Chicago's northwest suburbs. Considering the discomfort and lifestyle challenges many orthopedic patients suffer through, Ascension Saint Alexius has made ease of access and the overall patient experience key components in providing treatment.
"This distinction shows that our patients are benefitting from the experience of highly trained surgeons using some of the most advanced techniques and equipment available including robotic assisted joint replacement surgery." said Dr Paul Nourbash, the medical director of the Center for Advanced Joint Replacement Surgery at Saint Alexius in Hoffman Estates. "At Saint Alexius, we have a dedicated floor, operating rooms and rehabilitation area designed specifically for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. The team of nurses, therapists and techs are outstanding and have allowed us to achieve this honor."
The Center for Advanced Joint Replacement maintains a dedicated private space with amenities specific for orthopedic patients. The center's wing at Ascension Saint Alexius has been fully renovated for joint replacement surgery and includes things such as preparation and recovery areas to help ensure pre- and post-surgery comfort, uniquely designed orthopedic operating rooms and a rehab gym for patients to practice daily living tasks in a model kitchen, staircase, car and more.
Performance rankings like these provide an objective measure of a health system's ability to deliver consistent high-performing care across the communities they serve. Saint Alexius regularly earns recognitions and distinctions for the quality health care it provides. This includes national quality approval from the Joint Commission, accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, a Primary Stroke Center certification and multiple "gold" and "elite" honors from the American Heart Association for its stroke and diabetes care.
