For UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk, eradicating antisemitism is a moral imperative and a deeply personal one, and he has made it a top priority since joining UCLA last year.
In a letter to the Wall Street Journal (quoted below) in response to a Feb. 26 editorial, the chancellor reaffirmed that commitment to eradicate antisemitism and outlined the serious efforts and actions UCLA has undertaken to combat this hatred with action, reflecting the university's dedication to eliminating bigotry and fostering a community where all can work, learn, teach and thrive.
"Among other actions, we have recruited an associate vice chancellor for campus and community safety , established an Initiative to Combat Antisemitism with dedicated resources, reorganized our Office of Civil Rights, and appointed a Title VI/Title VII officer. We have strengthened our time, place, and manner policies to safeguard both free expression and campus operations. We are also supporting and partnering with community organizations engaged in the fight against antisemitism.
"These actions reflect a sustained and deeply personal commitment grounded in history and institutional resolve.
"Combating antisemitism is a moral imperative that demands rigor and honesty. It is advanced through consistent leadership and serious action.
"On this issue, UCLA answers with action."
