LAKE ZURICH, Ill. and BETHESDA, Md., September 6, 2026 - Fresenius Kabi and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) announced today the launch of the 21st annual Blood Collectors Week, taking place September 6-12, 2026. The annual recognition week celebrates the blood collection professionals whose expertise and dedication help ensure patients across the country have access to safe, high-quality blood and blood components.
Blood Collectors Week honors the essential professionals who serve as a critical link between donors and patients, including phlebotomists, apheresis operators, donor recruiters, technicians, drivers, and medical directors. Through their daily work, these individuals play a vital role in maintaining a reliable blood supply and supporting patient care in hospitals and communities nationwide.
Co-created and sponsored by Fresenius Kabi, an Operating Company of Fresenius, and a leading provider of essential medicines and medical technologies, and AABB, an international association representing individuals and institutions involved in the field of transfusion medicine and biotherapies, Blood Collectors Week highlights both the technical skill and compassion required in blood collection.
"Blood collection professionals make a difference every day, often behind the scenes, by helping ensure patients receive the blood products they need at critical moments," said Eddie Kubo, Senior Vice President, MedTech Commercial Operations, North America at Fresenius Kabi. "Fresenius Kabi is honored to support Blood Collectors Week and to recognize the individuals whose commitment and expertise are foundational to patient care."
"Blood Collectors Week is an important opportunity to recognize the people whose work makes blood transfusion possible," said Debra BenAvram, FASAE, CAE, chief executive officer of AABB. "Blood collectors' dedication to safety, quality and donor care is essential to ensuring a safe, stable and available blood supply. AABB is proud to partner with Fresenius Kabi to help shine a light on these professionals and the life-saving work they do every day."
Nearly 200 blood collection facilities across the United States are expected to participate in Blood Collectors Week through recognition events, social media engagement, and employee appreciation activities. A list of participating centers is available at bloodcollectors.org/join-the-community/#join-us-map.
Blood collection professionals are encouraged to visit bloodcollectors.org to share what motivates them in their work and to connect with peers across the community. Everyone is invited to join the celebration by following @bloodcollectors on X (formerly Twitter) and using the hashtags #BloodCollectorsWeek and #SavingLives to show appreciation and support.
