On Wednesday, October 8, during the national Day of Digital Resilience, volunteers from KPN and SeniorWeb will be ready in stores, libraries, and community centers to help with questions about digital skills and online safety. Visitors will receive practical explanations and tips on topics such as phishing, passwords, fake websites, and safely using apps.
Digital safety is a growing concern. In 2024, 2.4 million Dutch people fell victim to online crime, according to the CBS. Yet many people do not know how to protect themselves against it.
Control over digital resilience
"KPN is committed to making the Netherlands more digitally resilient," says Marieke Snoep, responsible for the Consumer Market and a member of KPN's Board of Directors. "Cybercriminals are becoming increasingly clever and exploit the lack of knowledge and skills, which is why we still click on that one link. We help with technology by providing free extra protection for your home internet connection and by increasing knowledge with the platform digitale-weerbaarheid.nl. In addition, our employees will go out into the country with SeniorWeb to personally support people. Together, we increase digital resilience."
Volunteers from KPN and SeniorWeb
The on-site assistance on October 8 will be provided by KPN volunteers who are committed through the KPN Mooiste Contact Fonds. This fund connects KPN employees to social initiatives that contribute to inclusion and digital accessibility. On this day, they join forces with the volunteers from SeniorWeb. Together, they are ready to help visitors with their digital questions and to raise awareness. "Many people have questions but do not always know where to turn," says René Kuster, director at SeniorWeb. "It's great that we can now offer an accessible place together with KPN. Everyone is welcome with all kinds of digital questions, such as about phishing or creating strong passwords. This aligns well with what we do every day: helping people with their digital questions in a reliable way. Just personally, in the store, library, or community center."
Help Moments: all questions are welcome
On October 8, participating KPN stores or SeniorWeb locations will be open for visitors. No appointment is necessary; you can walk in freely. Visit our website for a list of participating locations and the times when volunteers will be present.
More about digital resilience
KPN is committed to a #BetterInternet: not only faster and more stable but also safer, more social, and greener. That is why KPN collaborates with SeniorWeb, a national association aimed at making the digital world understandable. The 'Help Moments' during the Day of Digital Resilience are the beginning of this collaboration. More information can be found at kpn.com/seniorweb. Earlier, KPN launched the platform digital resiliencein collaboration with ING, which offers free training sessions. These training sessions explain how to deal with phishing, WhatsApp fraud, spoofing, and social engineering. Read herefor more information about the various training sessions.
