Grant Benschoter Named Operator of the Year

posted in Public Workson October 30, 2025

Each year, the Northeast Iowa Region of the Water Environment Association honors a certified wastewater treatment operator for its Operator of the Year award.

Mr. Grant Benschoter has been selected as the 2025 winner of this award and was recognized at the IAWEA regional meeting in Manchester on October 29, 2025. This is a significant accomplishment worth public attention. He was also awarded a one-year free membership to the national Water Environment Federation for professional development.

Operators are recommended for consideration of this award by inspectors from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Field Office in Manchester. A review team then made site visits to each of the municipal wastewater treatment facilities under consideration.

A well-run and maintained public sewer system and wastewater treatment facility form the backbone of every city's public health infrastructure. Certified wastewater treatment plant operators are in short supply across the state. With the testing required, certification can be a challenge.

Join us in congratulating Grant on this well-deserved achievement!
