New York State Police Announce Arrests Following Traffic Stop in ...

The New York State Police in Bath have announced the arrest of Stephanie N. Short, 36, of Corning, NY, on multiple charges stemming from a Steuben County Superior Court warrant. The charges include Transport of a Firearm (D Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence: Conceal/Destroy (E Felony), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (E Felony), and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd (A Misdemeanor).

The charges are related to a June 23, 2024, traffic stop in the village of Savona. During the stop, Short was operating a 2006 Toyota 4Runner with passenger Jeramiah P. Mendez, 35, of Naples, NY. An investigation revealed that Mendez had outstanding warrants. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a handgun, live ammunition, and a bag of gun parts. Mendez was also arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (D Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Firearm (E Felony).
