PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR HOME AFFAIRS, SECURITY AND EMPLOYMENT

The Civil Protection Department has successfully concluded a five-day mission to assist the Libyan people in the municipality of Al-Asabaa following a series of fires that destroyed dozens of homes. The source of the fires could not be determined.
Throughout the mission, five Maltese officials offered their support by assessing the situation on the ground and, based on their expertise, submitted preliminary findings to the Libyan authorities for further investigation. The mission was carried out under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, through which Malta continues to extend humanitarian assistance, as it has previously done in Libya, Greece, Turkey, and other countries. The team also received support from international experts from Estonia and Finland.
Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri stated that this mission reflects how the Civil Protection Department is actively using its resources and expertise to assist not only families in Malta but also those beyond our borders. He reaffirmed the government's continued commitment to investing in the personnel and equipment of the Disciplined Forces, enabling them to provide the highest level of service to the public.
Director General of the Civil Protection Department, Peter Paul Coleiro, expressed his gratitude to the Libyan National Centre for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management for their support during the mission. He also reiterated the dedication of Maltese officials to continue offering their assistance whenever required, always in the interest of ensuring greater safety for families.
