LOS ANGELES - On November 17, 2025, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO - representing more than 800,000 workers across 300 unions - announced its overwhelming endorsement of Mayor Karen Bass for re-election. The endorsement reflects the Labor Movement's strong confidence in Mayor Bass's leadership and her unwavering commitment to the working people of Los Angeles.
"Mayor Karen Bass has shown, time and again, that she is a mayor for the people - all people," said Yvonne Wheeler, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. "She leads with integrity, governs with compassion, and fights for working families with the same resolve that drives our movement. The Labor Movement stands with her because she has always stood with us."
From her first day in office, Mayor Bass placed working families at the center of Los Angeles' progress. She inherited historic challenges - record homelessness, an affordable housing crisis, a strained healthcare system, and rising economic instability - and has responded with courage, competence, and compassion.
Under her leadership, the City of Los Angeles has expanded worker protections, accelerated efforts to house homeless and vulnerable families, and created new pathways to good union jobs across both traditional sectors and emerging industries. She has stood firmly with classified school workers, teachers, city employees, and essential workers across all sectors - affirming labor as a critical partner in building a stronger and more equitable city.
Mayor Bass also played a pivotal role in advancing the Los Angeles Convention Center expansion - a transformative project expected to generate billions in economic activity, create thousands of union construction and hospitality jobs, and strengthen the City's long-term revenue base. This is a project that will deliver for generations.
"Mayor Bass understands that Los Angeles cannot be world-class when working people live in third-class conditions," said David Green, President of SEIU Local 721, the largest public-sector union in the region. "She knows the prosperity of this city depends on the people who build it, protect it, teach in it, and care for it every day."
The LA Labor Movement emphasized that this endorsement is grounded not only in Mayor Bass's proven achievements but also in a shared vision for the future - one where every worker has dignity, stability, and opportunity; where housing is affordable; where workers' rights are protected; and where equity is a governing principle, not a slogan.
With this announcement, the Federation is preparing to mobilize its membership - door by door, workplace by workplace, neighborhood by neighborhood - to ensure working families remain front and center in the 2026 election.
"Los Angeles deserves a mayor who leads with heart and delivers with purpose," Wheeler added. "Mayor Karen Bass is that leader. And with the full strength of the Labor Movement behind her, we are ready to build an L.A. where every worker can thrive."
