The College Assistance Migrant Program at Millersville University provides financial assistance, academic support and campus resources to help first-year students from migrant and seasonal farmworker families succeed at Millersville.
CAMP is designed to ease the transition into higher education by offering a range of services. Students in the program also receive financial aid counseling, academic advising, tutoring, mentoring and access to skills workshops.
Participants have access to the CAMP Student Center, where they can borrow textbooks, laptops, calculators and iPads to support their academic success.
To be eligible for the program, students or their parents must have worked at least 75 days within the past 24 months in migrant or seasonal farm work that is not year-round. Eligible work includes crop, dairy, poultry and livestock production, as well as the cultivation or harvesting of trees or fish farm products. Students who have participated in a Migrant Education Program may also qualify.
"This program is especially important because students from migrant and seasonal farmworker families often face financial barriers, frequent relocation and are often first-generation college students," shares CAMP Coordinator Apsara Uprety.
"CAMP was designed to address these challenges by offering targeted support during the first year of college, a time when students are most vulnerable to leaving higher education."
CAMP offers a Summer Bridge Program for accepted Millersville students who meet eligibility requirements. The free, one-week on-campus experience allows students to stay on campus at no cost, prepare for the math placement exam and become familiar with university resources and support systems.
"Through CAMP, we hope students gain confidence, build strong academic skills and develop a sense of belonging on campus," Uprety shares. "Ultimately, we want students to leave the program feeling empowered, supported and prepared to continue successfully toward their degree goals."
The Summer Bridge Program and support services are available to eligible students. Financial assistance, including scholarships, is subject to available funding.
