I'm pleased to share that Election Analytics is expanding with two new team members focused on support for our popular polling trackers.
Earlier this year, Alex Lemonides was promoted to graphics/multimedia editor. In this new role, he has been writing scrapers to automate our research efforts, developing better systems to support production of The Times/Siena Poll and reporting out new sources of data, among other things. He will also continue being one of our main points of contact with the hundreds of county and state election officials that we are in communication with every election cycle.
Alex joined Election Analytics as a senior news assistant in 2024 and quickly made himself indispensable, helping with projects such as collecting polls for our tracker of the presidential election, producing crosstabs for The Times/Siena Poll and calling county clerks to confirm precinct names and boundaries. He also helped report analytical stories about how people vote, including a look at retrospective views of then-candidate Donald Trump and what to make of so-called zombie votes for Nikki Haley in the Republican primary.
Alex joined The Times as a news assistant in Sports in 2016 and has since worked on a range of projects and teams, including a stint in Newsroom Development and Support and contributions to the data reporting efforts during the pandemic that were part of the package that won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize in Public Service.
He received a degree in economics from Vassar College and has a master's degree in data journalism from Columbia University.
