County project updates: ongoing roads, facilities, and infrastructure improvements

  • Bonded Transportation Program update- CR 218 continues to progress with asphalt work and a completed traffic shift. Crews on CR 209 are advancing drainage, sidewalk, curb, and paving work. On Project 3B (east end of Sandridge Road), stormwater and roadway base installation is underway. More details at the 32:33 timestamp.
  • Capital projects update- The team is managing 78 projects totaling $95 million. Public Safety Bond work continues, with $12 million spent. Major efforts include the Economic and Development Services Building (March 2026), the completed Black Creek Bike Trail boardwalk repairs, courthouse fourth-floor renovations (fall 2026), and work on Fire Stations 1 and 14.   • Engineering projects update- The CR 220/Lakeshore Drive intersection is substantially complete-88 days early. CR 220 widening is on schedule, and Live Oak Lane work is expected to finish this spring. Spencer Industrial Drive and CR 218 will wrap in January. US 17 nighttime paving is delayed due to cold temperatures, while the Blanding/Wells project remains on track for summer 2026. The Orange Park Northway resurfacing project will begin the week of December 15 and should be completed in 4-5 days. Details begin at 40:37.

Commissioners review proposed 2026 TPO road project list

Engineering Director Richard Smith briefed Commissioners on the preliminary list of priority roadway projects proposed for submission to the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) in January for potential funding. From last year's list, the TPO funded two County projects-the CR 217 bridge replacement and the intersection improvements at SR 21 and SR 100 in Keystone Heights. This year's draft list includes 20 top projects for 2026, with new additions including widening Knight Boxx Road to five lanes and safety upgrades on Old Hard Road from CR 220 to Canova Road. Board of County Commissioners meeting dates set for 2026

Commissioners approved the 2026 Board of County Commissioners meeting schedule. Meetings will take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, except December, which will have a single meeting on December 8 due to the holidays. All meetings will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room on the fourth floor of the Clay County Administration Building, 477 Houston Street, Green Cove Springs. Planning Commission members reappointed

Commissioners approved the reappointments of Michael Bourre, Howard "Bo" Norton, Bill Garrison, and Peter Davis to fill four upcoming Planning Commission vacancies. The Planning Commission advises the BCC on requests for Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code amendments, with appointees bringing expertise from a variety of industries.
