WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted to pass bipartisan legislation to end Donald Trump's tariffs on Brazil, which are raising costs on everyday essentials like coffee. This bipartisan legislation challenges Trump's claim he can impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEPPA) on billions of dollars of goods from Brazil. The vote comes shortly after new inflation data showed that consumer prices rose in September at their fastest pace in eight months. The legislation will now head to the House for consideration.
"Since Donald Trump started his cost-raising tariffs war, hardworking families have seen prices continuing to rise. These tariffs amount to a sales tax on Nevadans, which is why I'm proud to have voted to overturn them," said Senator Rosen. "Passing this legislation through the Senate is an important first step. I will continue fighting to repeal all of Trump's harmful tariffs so we can finally lower costs for everyone."
Senator Rosen has helped lead the fight to push back against Trump's reckless tariffs. Earlier this year, she signed on to an amicus brief challenging them in court. She also helped introduce the Tariff Transparency Act, which would require the U.S. International Trade Commission to study and publicly report on the economic effects of tariffs on Canada and Mexico- key trading partners for Nevada industries. Senator Rosen also helped pass a bipartisan resolution to strike down Trump's tariffs on Canada earlier this year, which is awaiting action in the House of Representatives.
