Bangkok, 30 October 2026 - Following news reports of a cybersecurity incident involving the overseas Binance platform, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been closely monitoring the situation and has coordinated with licensed digital asset business operators (DA operators) to assess the impact and potential risks to customers' assets, and to report to the SEC on the measures to control and limit damage, as well as the approaches to mitigate the impact.<_o3a_p>
Based on information reported by DA operators to the SEC, no significant impact on customers' assets under the custody of DA operators in Thailand has been found at this time. Under the SEC's rules, DA operators are required to safeguard customers' assets by using digital asset safe-keeping systems with appropriate security measures and limiting the amount of assets held in systems connected to external networks in order to reduce risks from cyber threats.<_o3a_p>
As for certain assets that may be related to transactions conducted through the overseas Binance platform, DA operators have reported that they are monitoring the situation and coordinating closely. However, the facts and the extent of the damage, if any, remain under review.<_o3a_p>
The SEC has instructed the relevant DA operators to take the following actions: (1) continuously monitor the situation and assess risks; (2) verify the status and security of customers' assets;
(3) immediately report to the SEC upon identifying any incident that may affect customers' assets or services provided to customers; and (4) provide customers with accurate and timely information in the event of any impact on, or limitation of, services.<_o3a_p>
The SEC will closely monitor the situation and continue to coordinate with the relevant DA operators to ensure that risks are managed and customers' assets are safeguarded appropriately. The SEC also urges investors to follow updates from the official channels of service providers and the SEC; use services only from licensed operators, which can be verified at www.sec.or.th; and be cautious of rumors or scams exploiting this incident to induce asset transfers. For inquiries, please contact the SEC Complaint Center at 1207.<_o3a_p>
It should be noted that the incident occurred on the overseas Binance platform, which is not under the SEC's supervision. The SEC's monitoring in this case therefore focuses on licensed operators under its supervision and on the protection of the assets of investors using their services.<_o3a_p>
