Cobb Superior and Juvenile Courts to host school attendance protocol signing

COBB COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT AND COBB COUNTY JUVENILE COURT HOST 2025 COBB COUNTY STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND SCHOOL CLIMATE COMMITTEE MEETING AND PROTOCOL SIGNING MARIETTA

(January 24, 2025) - For students in Marietta City Schools and the Cobb County School District to learn and achieve their fullest potential, school attendance and engagement are critical. Student absences impact a child's ability to succeed in school. To increase school attendance, students need to feel valued, engaged, and safe.

To address truancy and attendance, as well as school climate, Georgia state law (OCGA 20-2- 690.2) requires that communities and schools work together to address school climate and truancy through the recommendations of their local Student Attendance and School Climate Committee.

Members of the Cobb County Student Attendance and School Climate Committee have worked over the past year to update Cobb County's Student Attendance Protocol. To finalize the Protocol and be consistent with statutory requirements, Cobb County Superior Chief Judge Ann B. Harris has convened the 2025 Cobb County Student Attendance and Climate Committee on January 29, 2025, at 12 p.m. in the Superior Court Jury Assembly Room in the Superior Courthouse. At this meeting, the Committee will sign and formally adopt the Protocol and elect officers to ensure compliance with state law.

In addition to the Chief Judge, the Committee includes representatives from Cobb County Juvenile Court, Cobb County Magistrate Court, the Cobb County District Attorney's Office, the Cobb County Circuit Defender's Office, the Department of Juvenile Justice, Cobb County School District, Marietta City Schools, all county and local law enforcement offices, Cobb County's Division of Family and Children Services, Cobb Board of Health, Highland Rivers, and Cobb Collaborative.
