SIIA Applauds Bipartisan Reintroduction of the Future of AI Innovation Act

SIIA applauds Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Todd Young (R-IN) for reintroducing the bipartisan Future of AI Innovation Act, legislation designed to strengthen U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence. The bill formally authorizes the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) at NIST, establishes national AI testbeds, creates grand challenge competitions, expands public datasets, and promotes international collaboration on AI standards and research.

In a statement included in the press release, SIIA emphasized that maintaining global AI leadership requires empowering NIST with the authorities and resources necessary to develop voluntary standards and benchmarks. As Paul Lekas, SIIA's Executive Vice President and Head of Global Public Policy & Government Affairs, noted, the legislation provides needed authorities for CAISI and builds on its work convening industry, civil society, and academia through the NIST AI Consortium. SIIA urges the Senate to move swiftly on the bill and looks forward to working with Congress to advance its vision.
