USDA Rural Development Announces Nearly $1M in Housing Preservation Grant Funds for Texas

(Temple, Texas, October 30, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Texas State Director James Redfield announced nearly $1 million will support safe, affordable housing improvements in rural Texas.

The agency recently announced a full national obligation of Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) funds totaling $7,989,285 through 106 grants across 32 states to fund home repairs and housing rehabilitation for very-low- and low-income rural residents. The grants will repair an estimated 1,228 housing units across rural America, with grantees leveraging an additional $7,552,804 in partner funding.

"The Rural Development Texas State Office obligated $934,000 of the nationwide fiscal year 2026 funding to 13 grantees across Texas. Combined with approximately $1.7 million in leveraged funding, these investments will support the rehabilitation of an estimated 162 homes for low- and very low-income rural residents," said State Director Redfield. "Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, USDA Rural Development is making meaningful investments that help local organizations repair and rehabilitate housing for low- and very low-income rural Texans, ensuring families can continue to live in safe and affordable homes while strengthening communities across our state."

USDA Rural Development administers this funding through the HPG program , which provides grants to qualified non-profit organizations that, in turn, assist very-low- and low-income homeowners with needed home repairs and help rehabilitate eligible rental properties in rural areas.
