Colorado has enacted House Bill 1207, which, among other provisions, states that insurers may not refuse to issue, cancel, nonrenew, or increase a premium for a commercial policy for multifamily units-or a policy to cover the contents of a structure used for a residence and occupied by an owner or renter-based on the breed or mixture of breeds of a dog at the unit or structure. However, this does not prohibit an insurer from taking such action on the above-mentioned policies based on sound underwriting and actuarial principles on the basis that a particular dog at the unit or structure is known or declared to be dangerous.
