The next regular Yuma City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Here are some of the items scheduled to be presented to City Council for consideration:
Fiscal Year 2027 Tentative Annual Budget
Council will consider adopting the Fiscal Year 2027 Tentative Annual Budget. The tentative budget sets the maximum amount the City may spend during the fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2026, and ends June 30, 2027. The budget includes funding for day-to-day City operations, maintenance improvement districts, and capital projects. The final budget and related property tax rate will be considered later in the budget process.
Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Public Hearing
Council will conduct a public hearing for the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 through Fiscal Year 2031 Capital Improvement Program. The five-year plan outlines proposed capital improvements, cost estimates, funding methods, and project timelines. Only the first year is funded through the annual budget process, while future years are included for planning purposes and may be revised based on City Council priorities, project progress, cost estimates, and available funding.
City Administrator Recruitment Services
Anticipating the acting City Administrator's retirement, a professional services agreement with Mosaic Public Partners will be presented to City Council for consideration to conduct a national executive recruitment for the position of City Administrator. The recruitment process is intended to broaden the candidate pool and help identify qualified applicants for the role.
Open Burning Permit Agreement with ADEQ
Council will consider authorizing a 10-year agreement with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality that would allow the City of Yuma to continue issuing open burning permits. The Yuma Fire Department reviews permit applications for fire safety and air quality requirements before permits are issued.
Traffic Control Services
Following a competitive bid process, Council will consider awarding traffic control services for community events and other Citywide needs to Quail Construction and Hollis Brothers. The services would support recurring community events by providing items such as barricades, cones, signs, lane control devices, and setup and removal. The contract would be for one year, with the option to renew for four additional one-year periods.
