The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held a HACU on the Road at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain on July 8, 2025. The event brought together members of Spain's higher education community and leaders from the surrounding area for presentations on advancing higher education success for students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions and how the Association is meeting its strategic priorities.
The presentation held by Oralia De los Reyes, Ph.D., assistant vice president of programs and services, included a discussion on the state of higher education, HACU programs and international initiatives. Other topics discussed included supporting student success at HSIs, advocacy, and other initiatives.
As part of the trip to Spain, HACU staff visited Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, Universitat de Valencia, Hispania, escuela de Español, Universidad de Rey Juan Carlos, Universidad de Jaén, and the Universidad de Granada during. Meetings also took place with potential university partners in Madrid, and U.S. Embassy staff in Jaén.
HACU on the Road is an initiative designed to promote national and international dialogue about the state of higher education among chancellors, presidents of colleges and universities, superintendents of Hispanic-Serving School Districts, corporate leaders, and supporters of HSIs and the students they serve.
