PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Due to concerns about the condition of a temporary access road, the Hoh Rain Forest area of Olympic National Park is temporarily closed.

The Jefferson County culvert project at milepost 1.24 on the Upper Hoh Road is experiencing some backup flooding. The western Olympic Peninsula received over 3 inches of rain on Friday. Heavy rain is expected to continue through Saturday.

The Upper Hoh Road is maintained by Jefferson County and connects HWY 101 to the national park boundary. The road provides the only access to the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center, campground, picnic area, and trailheads.

The Hoh area will reopen as soon as Jefferson County partners assess the construction site and confirm the temporary bypass road is safe for travel.

For information about park roads and other destinations, visitors should call the recorded Road and Weather Hotline at 360-565-3131 or visit the park website at: http://www.nps.gov/olym.
