“Still Truckin” Acoustic Friday’s Songwriter Challenge
Lewisville Grand Theater will hold the Acoustic Friday's Songwriter Challenge, Friday, Aug. 15, 7 p.m., in the Black Box Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the stage, you're invited to join Acoustic Fridays (sponsored by the Visual Art League) for its quarterly Songwriting Challenge. This free event gives singer-songwriters - and listeners - the courageous and exquisite beauty of original songwriting.
Each challenge has a theme, and this event's theme is "Still Truckin."
Emcee Eric Smith, who founded the program 15 years ago, is proud to celebrate its 60th challenge this
Season - proof that the tradition is truly still truckin' along thanks to the creativity of local songwriters and the support of the Visual Art League and Lewisville Grand Theater.
Participating songwriters may perform their songs on acoustic instruments (amplified acoustic guitars are allowed) or a cappella. Solo performances are encouraged, but songwriters may have an accompanist also playing an acoustic instrument. The exception to the acoustic instrument rule is keyboard or electric bass.
There are no prizes and only two rules: Songs must be written specifically for this challenge and must be debuted at the event. The event is free and open to the public. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and ends when all the songwriters have performed.
The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.
To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays.
