"The mining and metals production sector has been continually making a tremendous strategic contribution to the progress of the economy, the development of transport infrastructure, the enhancement of the military, industrial and energy potential of the country while the well-coordinated, creative work of miners, steelmakers, foundrymen, roller operators, engineers and scientists - of everyone working in this industry - rightfully enjoys honour and respect.

It is important that today, iron and steel enterprises are being upgraded, they increase the competitiveness of their products, enter new markets, while at the same time being guided by the latest, advanced environmental standards. Social partnership principles are being steadily pursued - here I mean support for the current staff and veterans and their families, and your sincere care about the improvement of cities and towns.

I am confident that you will continue to successfully solve the tasks set in the interests of Russia and our people."
