Medi-Cal Enrollment Freeze for Undocumented Members

Effective January 1, 2026:

  • Medi-Cal members aged 19 and older who do not have satisfactory immigration status will have their existing full scope Medi-Cal "frozen". This means they can keep their Medi-Cal to pay for all services Medi-Cal covers including doctor's visits and prescription drugs.
  • New Medi-Cal applicants without satisfactory immigration status will receive emergency Medi-Cal coverage only.

It is important to keep your Medi-Cal active by reporting changes (including address changes) and responding to requests from the county. If your frozen Medi-Cal benefits are discontinued for more than three months, you will not be able to get back into full scope coverage.

Children and pregnant individuals will continue to receive full scope coverage.
